Epifanes Polyurethanes, Shellac & Varnish RE.500 Editorial Review
Epifanes Rubbed Effect is a high-quality varnish that is predominantly used for interior woodwork. Although expensive, it is worth the investment as it provides beautiful sheen and clarity to the wood. According to the FAQ, the varnish has some odor while flashing off and hardening but should not cause any major issues. It is recommended using gloss varnish for 7-8 coats and then topping it with Wood Finish Matte for the last 1-2 coats to give additional UV protection. The users have had mixed experiences with the product. While some have found it easy to use, others have found it difficult and prone to sags and runs on vertical surfaces. However, most reviews agree that it gives a beautiful hand-rubbed appearance and covers nicely without leaving any brush marks. It is important to note that it is not recommended for use on cutting boards or food prep surfaces, and should be thinned before use. Overall, if used correctly, this product can provide beautiful results on interior woodwork.
